3 Deaths Attributed To H1N1 Flu, All In Their 20s

OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - Officials with the Oakland County Health Department say three people have died from the flu.

They died from the H1N1 strain of the virus, which is a similar strain of the flu virus that caused a pandemic in 2009.

Health Officer Kathy Forzley with the Oakland County Health Division said the victims were aged 23, 25 and 29.

One victim, 23-year-old Ashley McCormick of Rochester Hills, first got sick on December 21st. She died six days later.

Health officials recommend everyone over the age of six months to get the flu shot. People at high risk of serious flu complications include young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes or heart and lung disease and people 65 years and older.
