PLYMOUTH (WWJ) — After nearly a decade in Detroit, Genesis Genetics has moved its corporate headquarters to Plymouth.
Genesis Genetics provides preimplantation genetic screening and preimplantation genetic diagnosis to the fertility therapy industry.
Genesis managing director Tony Gordon said the 13-year-old company needed more room — and a location that would be inspirational to employees.
“Our mission is to help couples build healthy families,” Gordon said. “Plymouth is a quintessential American family town with concerts in the park, a multitude of family festivals, events and parades, and a bustling downtown replete with couples with young families. It just made sense.”
He also said the new location at 705 S. Main St. is also shorter, easier trip to Detroit Metro Airport — since the firm’s work depends on timely air courier deliveries.
In addition to the headquarters in Plymouth, Michigan, Genesis Genetics has laboratories in Arizona, Argentina, Brazil, Jordan, South Africa, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is a laboratory procedure that is used in conjunction with in vitro fertilization to help detect certain single-gene diseases. Genesis Genetics was the first to perform this testing and is known globally for the ability to test for some of the rarest genetic conditions. Genesis Genetics works with IVF clinics to offer PGD as an option to couples who are at risk of having a child with an inherited disorder.
Genesis Genetics’ unique service gives potential parents the ability to quickly decide to undergo the test and select embryos with normal numbers of chromosomes. Timely reporting of results is critical and key to Genesis Genetics service.
“Faster results eliminate what could be a long and stressful waiting period,” Gordon said. “Moving to Plymouth has aided all our processes.”
