DETROIT (WWJ) – Don’t shoot the messenger, but there’s more snow on the way this weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effects for the entire Southeast Michigan region, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, through 10 a.m. Saturday. Expect roadways to be snow-covered and slippery, with visibilities reduced in areas of blowing snow.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Dave Bowers says a front coming down from the upper Great Lakes with a strong southwest wind has been wreaking havoc all over the state.
“The pattern just does not want to change,” said Bowers, “and we’ve got a couple of opportunities for some accumulating snow.”
Along with a lot of frigid wind, he says most of Southeast Michigan will likely see one or two inches of snow overnight Friday — although three inches shouldn’t be ruled out in some areas.
It won’t stop there. Metro Detroit could see a light snow shower on Saturday, and another one to three inches on Sunday.
Meantime, some local emergency rooms are seeing injuries related to the cold. With wind chills falling well below zero, doctors at Botsford Hospital said they treated some patients for frostbite on Friday. Doctors are reminding everyone to dress appropriately for the weather and keep your face and hands covered if you’re headed outdoors.
Some good news, however: It’s going to warm up just a tiny bit for the weekend.
