Detroit Grand Prix Looks For Volunteers
DETROIT – The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is looking for volunteers to help host one of the most exciting and rewarding events of the summer.
Gearing up for the 25th Grand Prix in Detroit’s history, event organizers are excited to start the summer with the 2014 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, May 30-June 1 at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park street circuit. To help create a world-class experience for the expected crowd of over 100,000 people that will visit Belle Isle during race weekend, event organizers are targeting a work force of over 1,200 Detroit Grand Prix Association (DGPA) volunteers.
This year’s Grand Prix will be packed with entertainment options including live concerts, BMX demonstrations, Monster Truck rides, displays featuring Detroit’s top sports teams and more. On the track, the weekend will once again include two IndyCar Series races – the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans.
Along with the IndyCar races, the event will feature the new unified sports car series, the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, two Pirelli World Challenge Series races and for the first time in Detroit, the high-flying trucks of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Truck Series. With seven races and plenty of entertainment and action in addition to the great racing, the Grand Prix needs a strong volunteer corps to assist the huge crowd of fans along with the race teams, vendors and event partners.

Quicken Loans is sponsoring the volunteer program for the third consecutive year, while the DGPA has supported the Grand Prix since 1983. The model for this organization has been so successful it has been adapted and implemented in other event volunteer efforts across the country.
“We have been very fortunate at the Grand Prix to consistently have the best group of volunteers I’ve ever encountered at any event,” said Bud Denker, Event Chairman for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. “Without these dedicated and passionate people we would not be able to host the world-class event we do here in Detroit every year. Our goal in 2014 is to have 1,250 volunteers join our team and continue to help make the Grand Prix a success and build on one of Detroit’s favorite summertime events.”
Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix volunteers can experience the event in many unique and exciting ways. Some of the vital duties DGPA volunteers perform during the Grand Prix include: circuit marshals, customer relations, food services, hospitality services, information booths, track services, ticket scanners, transportation/delivery services, ushers and more.
In order to join the DGPA and volunteer for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, individuals must pay a $15 registration fee. DGPA members have access to many benefits including credentials for all three days of the Grand Prix, an official DGPA volunteer uniform, a DGPA membership patch, a lapel pin, free off-island parking during race weekend, access to pre- and post-event parties and lunch provided all three days of the event. Volunteers are required to work a minimum of 25 hours during race weekend that will be divided into shifts depending on the volunteer area.
