DNR: Snowmobilers Ran Down Ducks On Saginaw River

BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - Officials are working to track down two snowmobilers they say plowed through an area of open water on the Saginaw River, killing several ducks.

Sgt. Ron Kimmerly of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division in Bay City says the ducks were killed around 4:50 p.m. Saturday. It happened along the east side of Middlegrounds Island, about a half-mile south of the Lafayette Street Bridge.

Kimmerly tells The Bay City Times  a witness photographed the snowmobilers, who both wore helmets, going through the water and alerted DNR officials. Photos show at least one dead duck on the ice and another stuck to one of the snowmobiles.

The DNR found at least nine dead ducks. The agency is seeking help from the public in identifying the snowmobilers.
