CBS DETROIT - With nearly half a century of coaching football under his belt, former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham will remain with the Lions even though he is no longer the team's coordinator.

New head coach Jim Caldwell chose to replace Cunningham with Teryl Austin, who coached with Caldwell in Baltimore, but Cunningham is still listed on the team's staff page, now as a senior coaching assistant.

Cunningham has been an NFL coach since 1982. He worked for the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts from 1982 to 1984, for the San Diego Chargers from 1985 to 1990, for the Los Angeles Raiders from 1991 to 1994, for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1995 to 2000, for the Tennessee Titans from 2001 to 2003, again for the Chiefs from 2004 to 2008, and for the Lions since 2009.
