DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned forwards Cory Emmerton, Riley Sheahan and Teemu Pulkkinen and defenseman Adam Almquist to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

Emmerton, 25, has appeared in 11 games with the Red Wings, notching two points (0-2-2) and four penalty minutes. The St. Thomas, Ontario, native has also skated in 36 games with Grand Rapids this season, ranking fourth on the team with 31 points (11-20-31) along with a plus-11 rating and 12 penalty minutes. In 132 career NHL games, Emmerton has tallied 21 points (12-9-21) and 22 penalty minutes. He has spent parts of five seasons with the Griffins, totaling 142 points (45-97-142) and 78 penalty minutes in 253 career AHL games.

Sheahan, 22, has split his second professional season between Detroit and Grand Rapids, registering 11 points (3-8-11) in 18 NHL games and 18 points (8-10-18) in 30 AHL contests. The St. Catharines, Ontario, native helped the Griffins win their first-ever Calder Cup championship in 2012-13, notching 36 points (16-20-36) in 72 regular-season games and 16 points (3-13-16) in 24 playoff games. Prior to turning pro, Sheahan recorded 64 points (20-44-64) in 114 collegiate contests with the University of Notre Dame from 2009-11.

Pulkkinen, 22, leads the Griffins and is tied for 15th in the AHL with 42 points (19-23-42) in 51 games this season. The Vantaa, Finland, native is in his first full season in North America but appeared briefly with the Griffins last year after his season in Finland concluded, recording one assist in two regular-season games and five points (3-2-5) in 14 postseason contests. A third-year pro, Pulkkinen has also skated in 185 career games with Jokerit of Finland’s SM-Liiga, totaling 128 points (49-79-128). He was named the league’s rookie of the year in 2010-11.

Almquist, 22, ranks second on Grand Rapids and sixth among AHL defensemen with 33 points (2-31-33) in 48 games. A native of Huskvarna, Sweden, Almquist made his NHL debut with Detroit on Nov. 4 at Winnipeg and scored his first NHL goal the following game on Nov. 7 versus Dallas. The 5-foot-11, 174-lb., blueliner has surpassed his offensive totals as an AHL rookie in 2012-13, when he recorded 31 points (10-21-31) in 68 games with the Griffins. He also picked up 10 points (3-7-10) in 21 games during the team’s Calder Cup run.
