Women Apparently Late On Rent Found Dead In Apartment

DETROIT (WWJ) - An overdue rent payment led to the discovery of two bodies inside an apartment on Detroit's west side.

Police responded to the apartment building on Linwood and Fenkell Street, just south of the Lodge Freeway, after receiving a 911 call Monday night from a building manager who was checking on the women because they were late paying rent.

The manager told police he went into the apartment and found one of the women lying face up on the couch, with blood coming from her nose and mouth. The other woman was dead on the floor.

Police initially said it appeared that the apartment had been ransacked, but investigators later said the woman just lived in disarray. Homicide investigators were called to the scene, but said it's possible the women died of natural causes.

One of the women is said to be 68-years-old. Identities were not immediately released.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine an exact cause of death.

An investigation is ongoing.
