DEARBORN (WWJ) - A 24-year-old man is facing several charges after carjacking and stabbing a man in what police describe as a drug deal gone wrong.

Shaker Hassoon was arraigned this week in 19th District Court on charges of carjacking, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The charges stem from an incident that happened around 9:35 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of S. Brady, just west of Evergreen Road and Michigan Avenue in Dearborn.

According to police, a 19-year-old Detroit man made plans to meet up with Hassoon to conduct a narcotics transaction. The man told police that after the drug deal was made, Hassoon suddenly opened his vehicle door and began stabbing him with a knife.

The man said he fell out of the vehicle and Hassoon jumped in the driver's seat and fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for multiple puncture wounds and lacerations.

Police identified Hassoon as the suspect and eventually took him into custody around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

"Illegal narcotic activity often leads to more violent crimes," Police Chief Ron Haddad said in a statement. "The Dearborn Police Department is aggressively committed to pursuing all levels of narcotic activity."

Hassoon was given a $100,000 bond and is due back in court on March 21 for a preliminary exam.
