Metro Detroit Businesses Working To Become More Fit-Friendly

DETROIT (WWJ) - "Workplace Wellness" has become a buzz phrase in the last few years, but what are metro Detroit area businesses doing to become more fit-friendly?

As health care costs continue to increase, more companies are looking for ways to slash those expenses and help employees live healthier lives.

Studies suggest implementing a work site wellness program can help increase productivity, reduce absenteeism and lower healthcare costs.
Leela Leonard is Benefits Team leader at Quicken Loans.

She said a recent company-wide roll-out of sit-stand desk workstations is producing real results.

"It invigorates you," Leonard said. "It gives you this second wind. It potentially helps to clear the mind, and we find that people have a different demeanor about attacking or approaching whatever work they have."

Quicken is just one of the 50 metro Detroit companies the American Heart Association has designated as a fit-friendly work site.
