2014 May Be A Big Year For Temporary Employment In Michigan

DETROIT (WWJ)- Ever consider a temp job? This might be the time.

Temporary employment has been a go-to resource for many people looking for employment in 2014, and experts say Michigan is becoming a hot location for many of those job-seekers.

CareerBuilder.com's Jennifer Grasz says they expect Grand Rapids to serve as one of the best markets for temp work this year.

Grasz told WWJ that temporary employees need to take that opportunity, and put in the work to earn a more permanent position.

"When you look at the temporary employment opportunities, it is a means for you to be able to get your foot in the door with an organization," she said. "And build relationships and network with those companies, and ultimately get hired on a more permanent basis."

According to Grasz, some of the more popular markets of employment include human resources, customer service, health care, technology and construction.

Grasz said companies that are still cautious about the economic recovery sometimes are inclined to offer more jobs on a temporary basis.

"A lot of companies took very heavy losses and they want more flexibility in their workforce," Grasz said. "So they want to be able to quickly ramp up and ramp down their businesses as needed, and temporary workers provide that provide that flexibility."

Grasz said that Indianapolis and Seattle are also projected to be big markets in temporary work.
