Police: 1 Dead, 2 Injured After Car Runs Red Light

DETROIT (WWJ) - One person is dead and two others are in critical condition after a deadly collision on Detroit's east side Tuesday evening.

Police say a vehicle, a gray Mercury Marquis ran a red light on eastbound Mack at Alter and hit a motorcyclist, then hit a pole.

Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody says the motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, is one of the two injured, and is in critical condition at St. John's Hospital.

"The driver of the gray Marquis is also listed in critical condition," said Sgt. Woody. "Unfortunately there was a passenger sitting directly behind the front passenger seat - he was pronounced dead at the scene."

All involved in the accident are Detroit residents.
