Separate Accidents Leave One Man Dead, One Fighting To Survive

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two serious car accidents leave one man dead and another fighting for his life.

Police tell WWJ that 66-year-old Jimmy Earl Walker was killed when he lost control of his Dodge last night and hit the center median as he traveled 1-94 near French Road.

A second accident happened around 3:35 a.m. Wednesday morning, involved 24-year-old Lesean Khyrie Winfield Jr.. of Detroit, who was critically injured when he lost control of his Buick on northbound I-75 just south of the Davison Freeway.

According to police, Winfield Jr. drove off the right side of the road and was attempting to regain control of his vehicle when he went across the freeway and struck the center median. The vehicle then overturned, police said, ejecting Winfield.

WWJ's Ron Dewey was on the scene Wednesday morning and said the SUV was upside down on its roof , almost directly underneath the Meade Street overpass - he was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt and both were ejected from their vehicles. Police say alcohol was not a factor in either accident.
