Police Search Detroit For Man Apparently Kidnapped, Trapped In Building

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are trying to locate a man who claims he was stabbed, kidnapped and is trapped in a vacant building somewhere in Detroit.

Police have been on the phone with the man since early morning, speaking with him on and off for hours. Their last contact came at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the man's phone keeps disconnecting, and they're not sure if he's in danger. He reportedly speaks only Russian, with limited broken English, and says he's a lieutenant in the Russian Army.

Investigators believe the man is somewhere on the city's east side, but they have not been able to pinpoint his exact location. Officials have requested a helicopter with a heat sensor to try to find the man.

Officials are also trying to monitor pings on the man's cellphone with help from officers in a dozen squad cars, as well as driving through neighborhoods with their sirens on in hopes he hears the sound.

The FBI has been called in to assist.
