DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) It's been awhile, sports fans, since the Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs.

How long?

Take a look at what was happening back in 1990, before Hockeytown was born.

A dozen eggs? They cost $1.

I was 10 years old.

Top movie? It was "Home Alone."

Top TV show? Woody Harrelson was behind the bar of "Cheers."

No. 1 song this week? Sinead O'Connor: "Nothing Compares 2U."

Cost of new home? It was $129,000.

Gas was $1.08 a gallon.

Judit Masco was on the swimsuit edition cover of Sports Illustrated. And she was wearing what looks like bathing burqa.

Renee Tenison was the Playboy Playmate of the Year. (Who is that, again?)

And the Avs, Preds, Sens, Sharks, Ducks, Lightning, Jets, Blue Jackets, Panthers didn't exist.

Wings fans should be proud. It's incredible. Now I'm off to eat a bullet and watch Ray Ferraro highlights as my Islanders have only made the playoffs SIX times in 23 years. It's a truly remarkable accomplishment for the winged wheel.
