Ex-Principal Sentenced In Student Sex Abuse Case

VICKSBURG, Mich. (AP) - An ex-principal in southwestern Michigan has pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with a relationship he had with a former middle school student.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that 43-year-old Greg Tibbetts also was sentenced Monday in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court to 18 months to 15 years in prison.

Tibbetts resigned from Vicksburg Middle School after his October 2012 arrest. The school is 20 miles south of Kalamazoo.

The student's sister found text messages of a sexual nature on the boy's cellphone. The boy later told a detective he was given alcohol and gifts over a two-year period.

Tibbetts also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor embezzlement stemming from improper use of a school district credit card. He was ordered to repay the district nearly $15,900 in restitution.
