Detroiter Accused Of Running Over Man Twice Is Charged With Murder
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 24-year-old Detroit man ran over another man twice in a car and left him for dead after a fight at a gas station in broad daylight.
Napoleon Turner III was arraigned Friday on a charge of first-degree murder in the April 5 death of 39-year-old Eric Miles.
The incident happened after the men got into a physical altercation outside the Valero Gas Station on 7 Mile Road and Pierson Street, between Lahser and Evergreen roads on the city's northwest side.
According to a statement released by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Turner first knocked Miles down and ran over him while he lay motionless on the ground.
"Once he struck Miles with the car it is alleged that Turner backed the car up and then pulled forward striking Miles again before driving away from the scene," prosecutors said.
Miles was declared dead at the scene. Turner was later arrested.
If convicted as charged, Turner faces a sentence of life in prison. It wasn't immediately clear when he'll be returning to court.
