Authorities Say 3-Year-Old Boy May Lose His Eye Following Pit Bull Attack

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A 3-year-old Pontiac boy is hospitalized, facing multiple surgeries, after he was attacked by the family dog.

Oakland County Sheriff's Office investigators say the boy has severe cuts on his face and may lose his eye as a result of the attack which took place Wednesday night outside a home on Melrose Street.

The child was playing with an 8-year-old before the pit bull attacked, deputies say. The 8-year-old was bitten on both hands while trying to get the dog off the other child.

The parents heard the boys screaming and were able to get the animal off the boy.

The dog, which the family had recently purchased from a neighbor, was on a long lead secured to a tree at the time of the attack.

It was turned over to the Oakland County Animal Control office.

Authorities say the dog was up to date on its vaccinations.
