Oakland County Sheriff Credits Tipster For Arrest Of 'Most Wanted Fugitive'

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Crime tips work, Oakland County authorities say.

The Sheriff's Department is crediting the public for the arrest of a 32-year-old "most wanted fugitive," who had felony warrants for a home invasion and larceny and probation violation.

Thanks to a tip from a person investigators are calling a "concerned and involved citizen," Tamisha Lanay Powell of Pontiac was taken into custody by the Sheriff's Fugitive Apprehension Team on Tuesday.

"We want the public to feel free to share tips with us if they have information on individual criminals or any criminal activity," said Sheriff Bouchard, in a media release. "In this case, the tip came in an email format, and within hours, our Fugitive Team was able to locate and take the individual into custody. We appreciate and use credible information as it comes in."

The Sheriff's Office wants the public to know that they can make tips through Facebook, via the department's website, by phone at 248-858-4911, or any way they feel comfortable. Tipsters names will be kept confidential.

Powell remained behind bars on Thursday. The details of her crimes were not immediately released.
