CHICAGO (AP) — Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila has been scratched from the lineup against the Chicago White Sox due to lower back spasms.

Avila was slotted to bat eighth Tuesday night before he was replaced by Bryan Holaday.

Avila also struggled with lower back spasms during spring training. He was hitting .220 with two RBIs and 23 strikeouts in 50 at-bats over 17 games this season.
