Detroit Man Charged With Rape Of Acquaintance Chained In Basement

DETROIT (WWJ) – A 50-year-old Detroit man is behind bars after prosecutors say he chained a woman to a basement pole and raped her several times.

At around 5 p.m. on April 30, Anthony Rice allegedly forced a 42-year-old acquaintance into his home in the 7200 block of Woodmont in Detroit and assaulted her.  She was finally able to escape, prosecutors said, after Rice unchained her, allowed her to get dressed, and then fell asleep.

Police said she ran to a nearby store on W. Warren and asked an employee to call 911.

Bond was set at $75,000 cash or surety at an arraignment for Rice in 36th District Court Monday on three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of kidnapping.

It was not immediately clear how Rice and the victim knew each other.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 15 before Judge Michael Wagner.
