WINTER STORM AFTERMATH: SNOWFALL TOTALS | TRAFFICRADAR | FLIGHT TRACKERSCHOOL CLOSINGS

Looking for an easy way to find good child care in your neighborhood? There’s a new resource available at www.greatstartconnect.org, a website meant to connect families with high-quality early education and child care.

Anybody who has a license to provide child care in the state is listed on the website. The site is searchable by zip code and neighborhood, so parents can find the most convenient locations available for them.

And every child care site is ranked by a star system that awards stars for things like whether the site is licensed, and the qualification level of staff, said Marijata Daniel-Echols, chief executive officer of the Early Childhood Investment Corporation. There’s also room for comments, so parents can learn what others have to say.

“Much like online hotel ratings, programs are awarded quality stars from one to five based on the number of standards met,” the site’s description explains

Parent Darlene Zimmy says the best thing about it is that it’s a way for “parents to see how different programs measure in different criteria by a third party.”

Another parent described it as “sort of a support system for parents.”
