Crews Resume Search For Man Missing In Rouge River
DEARBORN (WWJ) – A man who apparently fell into the Rouge River near the Henry Ford Estate in Dearborn has still not been located.
Crews resumed their search Wednesday morning for the man after he fell into the water Tuesday afternoon and was swept away.
The man and a 23-year-old Dearborn Heights woman were on the riverbank around 2 p.m. when a concerned citizen called police to report that they had fallen into the water behind the historic estate, located near Michigan Avenue and Evergreen Road.
The woman, who was screaming for help, was found about 100 yards downstream from where she fell into the river and was taken to the hospital. She’s being observed by doctors, although her current condition is unknown.
Crews spent about six hours searching for the man Tuesday, but eventually called off efforts due to poor visibility.
The Rouge River is approximately 127 miles and flows into the Detroit River at Zug Island. The water current is quite fast, as seen in this raw video:
