BCBS Of Michigan Recognized As Leader In Workplace Wellness

DETROIT (WWJ) - More and more metro Detroit companies are going the distance to make workplace wellness a part of their corporate culture.

On days like today, you may see people squeezing in a quick walk outside on their lunch breaks, before heading back to in to their desks.
But some companies are taking extra steps — literally — to help their employees work more activity into their day.

Just this month, the American Heart Association recognized Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as a platinum-level fit-friendly work site.

WWJ Health Reporter Sean Lee spoke with Michelle Miller, Wellness Coordinator for the Blues.

She says treadmill desks, offering more vending choices and fitness incentives boosts employee health and the bottom line.

"Things like health care costs and the trends that we're seeing in our nation today, we know that whatever tools we can give our employees to be healthier will eventually help us to reduce things like health care costs and increase our productivity, which helps our business, but also, again, links back to helping our employees," Miller said, "and that's what truly matters."
