Police: Man Attacked With Machete, Bitten By Jealous Girlfriend

CHELSEA (WWJ) - The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's office is looking into an incident involving a young man who was attacked with a machete and bitten — allegedly by his jealous girlfriend.

According to police, it happened last week when the man, his 17-year-old girlfriend, and two of her friends were driving along East Old U.S. 12 in Chelsea.

Police said the girlfriend saw another girl's name written on the ceiling of the victim's car, grabbed a small machete from the backseat and began slashing at the name in the car.

When the boyfriend tried to "disarm" her, police say she lashed out at him with the machete and bit him on the arm.

The man drove to the police station to report the incident, and refused medical treatment for his minor injuries.

The girlfriend is expected to be charged with aggravated assault.  The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Prosecutor's Office.

It was not immediately clear who owned the machete or why it was in the vehicle to begin with. No names were released.
