BUENA VISTA TWP. (WWJ/AP) – Authorities say a worker was killed when he was crushed at a steel plant near Saginaw.

Crews responded about 9:45 p.m. Monday to Peerless Steel in Buena Vista Township and the man was dead at the scene, The Saginaw News reported.

Fire department Captain Craig Gotham said steel rolled onto the man. Gotham said emergency crews quickly responded to the plant after the accident, but there was nothing they could do to save the man.

The accident remains under investigation. The man’s name wasn’t immediately released.

The plant is located about 80 miles northwest of Detroit.
