Body Of Missing Swimmer Recovered In Stony Creek Lake

SHELBY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - The body of a missing swimmer in Stony Creek Lake has been recovered. The lake is in Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township.

Wednesday evening, the Macomb Sheriff Dive Team located and recovered the body of a 21-year old, Pontiac man. Positive identification is pending a Macomb County Medical Examiner's Review but it is believed to be that of the missing swimmer Malcom Fairley.

According to eyewitness reports, four persons had rented a paddle boat and were out on the lake Sunday, when Fairley jumped into the water. The man resurfaced, then went under a second time and did not come up.

After his friends tried unsuccessfully to find Fairley, dive teams from three departments searched for hours in the cloudy water Sunday night to no avail.

The family has been notified.
