Death Of 3-Year-Old Girl Hit By Car Ruled Accidental

EASTPOINTE (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say the death of a 3-year-old girl who apparently darted into a street in metro Detroit has been ruled an accident.

Authorities say Adrianna Mallory, of Pontiac, died after being hit by a vehicle around 7 p.m. last Saturday on Almond Avenue near 9 Mile Road, just west of I-94 in Eastpointe.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said an autopsy determined that she died from blunt trauma to the head.

Police say witness statements indicate that Adrianna ran into the street from behind a parked vehicle and was struck by a car. The accident happened as an adult with Adrianna was getting something from another vehicle and briefly looked away.

Adrianna was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver, who immediately stopped after the crash and tried to help the girl, is not expected to face any charges.

The incident remains under investigation. Police are still looking to speak with witnesses. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 586-445-8959.
