Teen Arraigned After Jail Assault Leads To Death Of Cell Mate

MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - Charges have been brought against a 17-year-old Warren man after he assaulted another man while the two were housed together at the Macomb County Jail.

On May 28, closed-circuit cameras showed Mark Cowans had pulled 34-year-old Ryan Hagerman off his bunk and repeatedly struck and kicked him.

Three weeks later, Hagerman died of his injuries.

Cowans has been arraigned on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and remains in the Macomb County Jail.
