Tinder Co-Founder Files Sexual Harassment Suit
By Edward Cardenas
LOS ANGELES (CBS Detroit) – The co-founder of the popular match -making app Tinder has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles claiming she was the victim of sexual harassment and sexual discrimination by the company’s chief marketing officer.
Justin Mateen, Tinder’s chief marketing officer, repeatedly called Tinder co-founder a “whore” and that he was taking away her title “because a young female co-founder ‘makes the company seem like a joke’ and ‘devalues’ the company,” the lawsuit stated.
The suit added that Wolfe received a “barrage” of sexist, racist and inappropriate comments, emails and text messages, from Mateen and Tinder CEO Sean Rad.
Wolfe reportedly complained to the Rad, who ignored her and threatened her job. The night she was reportedly called a whore, she offered to resign. The lawsuit stated that Rad rejected her offer and fired her.
IAC, a media brand company that owns Tinder, said in a statement that Mateen has been suspended pending internal investigation, according to a story in CNET.
“Through that process, it has become clear that Mr. Mateen sent private messages to Ms. Wolfe containing inappropriate content,” an IAC spokesman said in a statement.
She is seeking an unspecified amount from Tinder, the popular app which allows people to connect with others around them. Users can swipe right to like or left to pass. According to the website, “if someone likes you back, it’s a match.”
