Royal Oak Police Warn Residents Of Scammers Posing As Water Department Workers

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Police in Royal Oak are looking for at least two men posing as water department workers.

Investigators say a Royal Oak resident called police to report that the two suspects said they needed to check his water meter. According to the homeowner, once inside, one of the men immediately went to the basement with the owner, while the second stayed upstairs unattended

The two men got into a newer, black SUV or minivan when they left the home.

The homeowner called the water department and found out that no one from the city had been dispatched to the home ... the owner then discovered an undisclosed amount of money was missing.

The first suspect is described as a white male, 5'6", late 30's, with short straight black hair, and heavy-set.

The second suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion, 6' 0", mid 30's, and heavy-set. He was wearing a blue t-shirt with an unknown design on the front and blue/gray pants or jeans.

A similar incident from a homeowner on Seminole street was reported on July 1. In this incident,  a white male in his late 40's, wearing a blue plaid shirt came to the door claiming to be from the Water Department.

In this case, the owner did not allow the man inside and he ran from the porch when the owner called for her son to come to the door to talk to him.

Anyone with information on either incident can call Lt. David Clemens at (248) 246-3456.
