Meteorologist Dave Rexroth Loses Sight In One Eye After Fireworks Accident

DETROIT (WWJ) – Channel 7 revealed Monday morning that meteorologist Dave Rexroth has been hospitalized in Iowa — following a fireworks mishap that cost him his vision in his left eye.

Rexroth was injured Friday night in Iowa City. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday to begin the process of receiving a prosthetic eye.

Ed Fernandez, vice president and general manager of WXYZ had this statement on the station’s website:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave and his family and they have our full support during this difficult time. As Dave recovers, we’ll provide updates on his progress – and we look forward to his return to Action News,” said Fernandez.

Rexroth expects to fully recover by September.
