Plea Deal For Michigan Man Who Shot Daughter's Suspected Rapist

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan man has accepted a plea deal and admits he fatally shot a suspect in his daughter's rape.

The Saginaw News says the father pleaded guilty Friday to manslaughter and having a gun in a felony. He was facing a July 22 murder trial.

Authorities say the Saginaw man fired a shotgun at 20-year-old Dravon Hunter on July 28, 2013. The Associated Press isn't naming the father to avoid identifying the daughter.

Saginaw County Circuit Judge Janet Boes says she plans to issue a minimum sentence of 8 years, 4 months for manslaughter. The man also will serve 2 extra years for the firearms charge.

Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Boyd says his office considered the rape case in accepting the deal. Boyd says the plea agreement "was fair to everyone."
