Tigers Add Joakim Soria, Bolstering Shaky Bullpen

DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski says it was a necessity to bolster the team's bullpen.

The Tigers acquired right-hander Joakim Soria, giving them an option to pitch in the seventh, eighth or ninth inning as soon as Thursday night on the road against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Tigers traded pitching prospects Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson to the Texas Rangers to acquire Soria.

Dombrowski has been working on improving the AL Central-leading Tigers for weeks. He says reliever Joe Nathan and second baseman Ian Kinsler were asked about Soria as a player and person because they were teammates in Texas. The first-year Tigers gave Soria a good review on and off the field.
