Detroit Medical Center Cuts Ribbon On New Heart Hospital
DETROIT (WWJ) - It was a celebration in Detroit as the Detroit Medical Center cut the ribbon on its new heart hospital.
The Select of God Choir set the mood for Tuesday's grand opening.
Few people are happier about the $78 million investment in cardiac care than Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, who helped plant the seeds for the new facility during his nine-year tenure as DMC CEO.
"The quality of the services at DMC in cardiology rival anybody in the country," said Duggan, "and now the facilities rival anywhere in the country."
Current CEO Joe Mullany says the specialty hospital means a new standard of care for Detroiters and the rest of Michigan.
"They can get it in one place, and get it of the highest quality in a very convenient, lovely setting,"Mullany said.
The six-story 215,000-foot hospital is located at the intersection of Mack and Brush Ave. in midtown Detroit.
