Update Expected In Sex Case Against Ex-Detroit Tigers Pitcher

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy will hold a news conference Wednesday on the status of a sexual assault allegation against former Detroit Tigers Pitcher Evan Reed.

Reed was with the Tigers in April when it became public that a 45-year-old woman had accused him of sexually assaulting her in a hotel room at a Detroit casino.

The woman alleges that she met Reed at a bar in Royal Oak, where she consumed several drinks and danced before blacking out. The next morning, the woman told police, she woke up in a Motor City Casino hotel room, lying naked next to Reed in a bed. When the woman got up to take a shower, Reed allegedly asked her to leave his room. Reports say there was evidence on the sheets that the woman had been sexually assaulted.

The woman allegedly didn't realize Reed was associated with the Tigers until after the incident, which was reported to police on April 2.

Worthy said she'll announce the results of her review of the case Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Reed is now with the Toledo Mud Hens, an AAA International League "farm team" for the Tigers.
