DETROIT (WWJ) - He shot another man dead and made a run for it.

Detroit police are looking for the public's help to find the person responsible for a fatal shooting Thursday, July 17, at West Vernor and Vinewood on Detroit's southwest side.

At around 2:30 p.m.  police say, the 22-year-old male victim was walking home from the store located on that corner when he was approached by a man with a handgun.

The two exchanged some words; and, when the victim started to run away, the gunman fired a shot, striking the victim who then fell to the ground.

Police said the suspect then stood over the victim, who was lying on the ground, and fired again, multiple times, fatally wounding him.

Surveillance video from a nearby building shows the suspect fleeing the scene, weapon in hand.

He is described as a dark-complected black male in his 20s, around 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a "husky build." He was wearing a red and black Chicago Bulls baseball cap, a red t-shirt with a star on the front with "Detroit"  written in the middle, and over-sized dark jeans.

It is believed that the shooter may have  a leg injury based on the way he was running.

A possible motive for the killing has not been disclosed. The victim's name was not immediately released.

Anyone who has seem the man on this video or who had any information regarding this crime is asked to call the Detroit police at 313-596-1616 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. As always, tipsters to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous.
