'Sharknado' Returns For Second Chomp Of Cable, Social Media

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - The forecast is in, and a second sharknado will strike cable and social media Wednesday night.

The SyFy network will be airing Sharknado 2, The Second One, which is a sequel to last summer's hit Sharknado, at 9 p.m. Wednesday on the cable station.

Last year, the B-movie about a tornado storm of angry sharks that attacked Los Angeles became a Twitter phenomenon with nearly 5,000 tweets per minute during the initial broadcast. It also had three of the top 10 trending topics with #sharknado, #syfy, and#tarareid.

Following the success of first shark-storm movie, a sequel was put into production. This time the shark-infested storm strikes New York with stars from the first movie - Ian Zering and Tara Reid - return to take on the killer fish on the east coast.

The sequel is prepared to take social media by storm again with viewing parties planned, various product placement and a party kit with drink and food recipes along with a Sharknado drinking game.
