DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are looking for the suspect who fatally struck a senior citizen during a carjacking on the city’s east side.

The incident happened around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday on Oldtown Street, near I-94 and Cadieux Road.

According to police, a 68-year-old man was hit in the head with an unknown object after he refused to take the suspect to the west side. The suspect then took off in the man’s burgundy F-150 pickup truck.

When police arrived on the scene, the victim was found unresponsive on a porch nearby. His identity was not immediately released.

Police are currently looking for the suspect, but were not able to provide a detailed description. The suspect could still be driving the victim’s vehicle, which has a broken driver’s side window.

HEAT, Help Eliminate Auto Theft, is offering a $2,000 reward for tips leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600 or HEAT at 800-242-HEAT.
