Owner's Gut Feeling Thwarts Theft From His Property

MONROE (WWJ) - Monroe County Sheriff's Office reports the arrest of four people in connection with a series of crimes committed in Ida Township over a two-day period.

Police say that the foursome attempted to steal an older truck, but were chased off the property by the owner, while the owner was on the phone giving their description to police.

The day before, the owner of this property called police to report that several items were stolen from his barn and that evening he waited in his barn thinking the suspects might return for more.

It turns out the owner was right as the would be thieves returned with a car hauler trailer but were somehow frightened off and ran from the property only to be stopped a short time later and taken into custody.

The suspects are identified as a 17-year-old Temperance man, a 28-year-old Monroe man, a 21-year-old Newport man and a 17-year -old Monroe woman.

The four suspects are awaiting arraignment on charges including breaking and entering, attempted auto theft, and possession of burglary tools.
