Who's The Richest Person In Michigan? Think Groceries

DETROIT (WWJ) - If you're searching for the richest man in the Great Lake State, you'll want to look to the west.

Real estate broker "Movoto" has come out with a new list of the Wealthiest Americans by State. In Michigan, the $7.9 billion fortune of Hank and Doug Meijer puts them on top of the list of billionaires in the state.

It's hard to determine exact numbers in the case of the grocery chain magnates because Meijer is a privately held company. The company has more than 200 stores in five states and has a workforce of more than 60,000 employees.

The Meijer brothers have more in their bank account that half of the other states biggest tycoons. In second place is Richard Devos with $7.3 billion, followed by Dan Gilbert with $3.6 billion, Karen Davidson with $3.5 billion, Ronda Stryker with $3.2 billion, Alfred Taubman with $2.9 billion, Mike Ilitch with $2.4 billion and William Clay Ford with $2.2 billion.

So, who's the wealthiest person in the country? That honor -- not surprisingly -- goes to the magnifico of Microsoft, Bill Gates, whose estimated fortune is worth $80 billion.
