'The Incident Did Not Take Place, As Originally Reported' Say Police About Alleged Teen Abduction

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP (CBS DETROIT) -  Monroe County Sheriff's Office has determined that the alleged abduction of Hayley Turner as reported did not take place.

A statement sent to WWJ Newsradio 950 in connection with the alleged abduction of Turner, 18,  on August 7, does not expand on the report but does say after police and FBI interviewed Turner it was determined that the incident did not take place as originally reported.

Police said that they received a 911 call Friday afternoon that a young woman jumped from a moving vehicle at 19th Street and Salliotte, near Outer Drive.

Turner was reported missing around 10 p.m. Thursday in the area of Dean and Crabb roads, just west of Telegraph Road in Bedford Township.

According to police, Turner had just left the Family Video store on Dean Road and Louis Ave., and called her friend as she was driving home.

"During their conversation, Hayley stated that she was at Dean and Crabb roads when she noticed a guy laying in the ditch," Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone said.

Turner then told her friend that she was going to get out of her car and check on the person.

"Seconds later, Hayley told her friend 'He has a gun' and the phone was disconnected," Malone said.

The friend called Turner's father, who arrived on the scene within minutes.

"Mr. Turner found Hayley's vehicle running and unoccupied,"  Malone said. "Minutes later several officers arrived on scene." The teen was nowhere to be found.

Deputies started canvassing the neighborhood, asking residents in they noticed anything suspicious in the area.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office will be closing out the investigation and forwarding the complaint to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office, for review.
