Five Men Charged With Malicious Destruction Of Property For Spray Painting Detroit Building

DETROIT (WWJ) -- According to a press release, five men have been have been charged with malicious destruction of property for spray painting the side of a Detroit building last week.

One officer arrived on the seen and saw three of the men tagging a wall on the Murdock's Tire Doctor building. Once the suspects spotted the officer, they then fled across Livernois towards Burlingame and got into a blue minivan and attempted to flee.

Another officer then caught up and stopped on the minivan. During the stop, the officer spotted three other suspects spray painting the north side of the building, who fled the location on foot.  After investigation, the three men in the minivan were taken into custody for malicious destruction of property.

Further investigation revealed information from citizens that the three other suspects had fled into the nearby neighborhood. Officers quickly canvassed the area and located two of the three remaining suspects and took them into custody.

"The department will not tolerate individuals who maliciously deface or vandalize any buildings or structures within our city and we will make every effort to ensure that those laws protecting the beauty of our communities are enforced with the utmost integrity and respect," the Detroit Police Department stated in the issued release.

All five suspects are being charged with malicious destruction of property over $1,000.
