DETROIT (WWJ) – The Michigan Humane Society is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest of the person responsible for the senseless killing of a puppy during a robbery on Detroit’s west side.

According to police, a 23-year-old man was mugged at gunpoint by two people after walking out of the Onasis Coney Island at Tireman and Livernois at around 2:15 a.m. Monday.

Police said the victim tried to take the suspect’s shotgun, which went off, striking the young man in the leg. Police said that’s when one of the two suspects grabbed the man’s dog — a 9-week-old Shi Tzu  — and slammed it into the pavement.

Humane Society officials are calling it a “vicious killing.”

The human victim, whose name was not released, was expected to be OK.  MHS said the young man was picking up food for his mother at the restaurant that morning.

Police are looking for two suspects which fled in a gold 2005-2006 Chevy Impala.

MHS is asking anyone with information about the individuals responsible for the robbery and violent killing of the puppy to contact the Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Investigations Department at 313-872-3401 or Detroit police.
