Noted author and publisher Bill Haney took to the “Michigan Matters” set to talk about his newest book “What They were Thinking: Reflections on Michigan Difference-Makers” ” and shared stories he penned about the late Detroit Tigers iconic announcer Ernie Harwell, “Dr Death” Jack Kervorkian, and others.
Haney, who runs MB Book in Ortonville, is one of the most prolific publishers in the state as he has had a hand in over 400 books as writer, editor, ghost writer, consultant and publisher.
Haney appeared on the show with Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Ilitch Enterprises CEO Denise Ilitch and show senior producer/host Carol Cain.
During a far flung conversation, Patterson also talked about the fallout of last week’s historic rains and floods which swept through Metro Detroit and devasted thousands of homes and businesses.
There are people who won’t get a dime from their insurance companies or federal government, Patterson commented.
“The government will only make loans available,” Patterson added.
Ilitch , the eldest of Marian and Mike Ilitch’s seven children, is one of the leaders profiled by Haney in his new book.
“What They were Thinking” will be available in stores soon but is being celebrated at an evening reception open to the public on Sept 17 at 220 Merrill in downtown Birmingham.
Numerous movers and shakers will be on hand at the event including Haney, Ilitch, Tom Wilson, Sue Marx, Joe Dumars and others.
Proceeds from books sales that night will go toward Reading Works, an organization tackling illiteracy that is championed by the Detroit Free Press.
Watch “Michigan Matters” 11:30 am Sunday on CBS 62.
