The Detroit Tigers haven’t given up trying to better their bullpen. According to a report by MLB networks’ Peter Gammons and Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Tigers have claimed Houston Astros reliever Chad Qualls off revocable waivers.
The Tigers have until Wednesday to make a trade for Qualls. Just because the Tigers have claimed him doesn’t mean that the Astros are willing to trade him.
The Astros still have the option to pull Qualls off waivers. The only other option is for the Astros to award the contract to the Tigers, which is highly unlikely.
Qualls has been the Astros part-time closer this year and has an ERA of 3.07 with a WHIP of 1.159 and 38 strikeouts and 5 walks in 44 innings pitched.
