Woman, 36, Charged With Murder In Man's Stabbing

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) — A 36-year-old woman is facing an open murder charge following the fatal stabbing of a man in a Grand Rapids apartment.

Grand Rapids police say Janaya Johnson was arrested Friday morning and faces a Tuesday arraignment.

Officers were called about 12:45 a.m. Friday to the apartment and found that 33-year-old James Arthur Washington had been stabbed multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is planned.

Witnesses told police that Washington had been involved in a fight with a woman who also lived at the apartment. The woman fled before authorities arrived.

Johnson was arrested hours later. It wasn't immediately clear if she has an attorney.
