Ex-Michigan GOP Committee Member Gets Prison Time For Extortion

ESCANABA, Mich. (AP) - A former member of the Michigan Republican State Committee who was convicted of extortion and using a computer to commit a crime during his divorce has been sentenced to three to 20 years in prison.

The Daily Press of Escanaba reports 52-year-old Doug Sedenquist learned his punishment Tuesday in Delta County court.

The Escanaba man was convicted of attempting to demand certain conditions in a divorce with his ex-wife. Escanaba man was accused of threatening to disclose alleged privacy violations in connection with her nursing job.

Sedenquist told the court it was "a horrible mix-up." Sedenquist's attorney, Frank Stupak, says his client isn't a threat to society or his ex-wife.

Michigan Republican spokesman Darren Littell says Sedenquist resigned from the committee July 20, a few days after being convicted.
