DETROIT (WWJ) – Police in Detroit say a newborn boy who was apparently kidnapped has been found safe and is in good condition.

Police say 7-week-old Ziairr Ryles was found Wednesday at a home on Dwyer, near McNichols and Mt. Elliot. The baby’s cousin, 21-year-old Qwayonna Taylor, could now be facing charges.

On Tuesday, police sent out a plea for help in locating the newborn and Taylor, who were dropped off at a residence on Outer Drive by their grandmother. Taylor took the baby into the apartment complex, but apparently never arrived at her friend’s apartment.

The baby’s mother reportedly allowed Taylor to take care of Ziairr for a couple of hours, packing her a bag with diapers and an extra change of clothes. When the mother called Taylor to see where her child was, Taylor allegedly turned off her phone.

According to reports, Taylor took the baby to an ex-boyfriend’s house and insisted the child was his. The man then let Taylor and the baby stay the night. In the morning, the man’s father was at a gas station when he apparently ran into police officers who were looking for Ziairr. Recognizing the baby from a photo, he took the officers back to his home where they recovered Ziairr and took Taylor into custody.

Ziairr has since been reunited with his mother. Authorities tell WWJ that the case is being handled as a kidnapping and the investigation is ongoing.
