Student Arrested After Bomb Threat At High School
GROSSE POINTE WOODS (WWJ) - Officials say a student has been arrested after making a bomb threat at a Wayne County high school.
The situation unfolded around Tuesday morning at Grosse Pointe North High School on Vernier Road, just east of Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods.
A statement from Grosse Pointe Public School System said the administration was notified around 7 a.m. that a bomb threat was made by a student via social media.
Superintendent Dr. Thomas Harwood said police quickly responded the scene and evacuated the building by 7:30 a.m., while students arriving for the school day were told to leave the area.
Police then "immediately located" the student who made the threat still at his home, and placed him under arrest. Officers also determined the threat was a hoax.
The building was declared safe by police and reopened around 8:05 a.m. for the school day.
"The safety of your students is our first priority. This sort of hoax is not only disruptive to our students, but impacts all of us on an emotional level. This sort of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," the statement said. "We appreciate the quick and effective response provided by the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department and their collaboration with school administration."
It's unclear what charges the student may face.
